Sabotahe raw? VP Robredo says it’s obvious who has capacity to kill

Teenagers killed to “sabotage” the war against drugs? Vice President Leni Robredo isn’t buying it.

“Sino namang magsasabotahe nito? Sino namang may kapasidad? Sino iyong may kapasidad na mampatay?” she said in her radio show on Sunday, when asked about President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent pronouncement.

Duterte last week said that the killings of young people—notably his “relative,” 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz—were done to discredit the police and his administration’s centerpiece program.

For her part, Robredo insisted that a bloody war against drugs is not a correct approach, pointing to the experience of other governments which tried this and failed.

While acknowledging the gravity of our drug woes, she has reiterated the importance of due process, and proposed that more attention be given to community-based rehabilitation, which most of the drug surrenderees qualify for.

Iyon iyong nakakatakot,” she added.
